Burrito Ha Ha BurritoOctober 2012
October Taqueria Visits

10/26: El Burrito Express in the Western Addition / Lower Pacific Heights / whathaveyou presents us with an ultramega breakfast burrito studded with...carnitas. Whump.
10/22: For the first time in our 11 on-record visits, a burrito from Taq. El Castillito on Golden Gate near Larkin fails to earn at least eight mustaches. The horror.
10/18: It's the same old song and dance at El Faro on 1st St.: Impressive overall rating, flawed burrito, sad dining experience.
10/16: We order a San Francisco Chicken at Tacko. (No, really — a San Francisco Chicken.) Hella mustaches ensue.
10/14: Tacobar rings up a pair of nines: A nonstop-rad 9.17-mustache burrito with a steep $9.95 price tag that's so worth it.
10/12: There are precious few San Francisco taquerias where 8.67 mustaches constitute a below-grade outing. Gordo Taq. in the Inner Sunset is one such burritoteria.
10/10: Taq. El Castillito on Mission slings forth a weird one. It's not the first time.
10/3: It's 8.08 mustaches with a bit of a struggle at UCSF Mission Bay's Público.

Slabs 'n' Snickers

Yes, burritos. No, not the Mars, Inc.-produced chocolate bar. Rather, the San Francisco Comedy & Burrito Festival.

This first-time event, which runs October 11-13, brings together two essential elements of a rightly lived existence — laughter and San Francisco burritos. Three nights of comedy shows at a range of Mission venues (including Esta Noche, Sub-Mission Gallery, and the Dark Room)? Combined with coupons for free super burritos from ever-popular Mission burrito purveyors Taq. Pancho Villa and El Toro? It's a recipe for side-splitting antics and full bellies all weekend long.

Tickets and further information here.

September Taqueria Visits

9/30: If you're looking for a lot of mustaches and little fanfare, Taq. El Farolito in the Excelsior is your spot.
9/26: Papalote in the Mission rings up 8.50 mustaches with one arm tied behind its kitchen's back.

2012 Hiatus #3

There comes a time when a burrito-eating panel must examine its direction in life — a time to step back, reflect, and take stock.

Fortunately, this is not that time for Burritoeater's judges panel. It is, however, time for another extended road trip.

We'll be back in full force in late September. In the meantime, y'all know what to do with the fort.

Chiclangle

We've deleted our Chipotle listings. It's nothing personal against the slab-making megachain. Our panel just can't be bothered with reviewing a cavalcade of inevitable seven-mustache (at best) burritos at the ever-increasing number (eight? nine? we've lost count) of Chipotle locations around San Francisco.

More details here.

August Taqueria Visits

8/26: Rough going at Nick's Crispy Tacos: a meat-at-the-bottom burrito, the NFL preseason on Fox, and scads of boisterous day drinkers. Bummers all around.
8/23: We've got our favorite burrito at Taq. La Playa, and it's not the one we order this time.
8/21: We drop by The Little Chihuahua's Noe Valley shop for an al pastor soft-launch of sorts.
8/17: Why? Why have you yet to venture down 3rd Street to Taq. La Laguna?!
8/15: In one of the year's more unbefitting moves, longtime Burritoeater favorite El Burrito Express in the Outer Sunset does an alarmingly spot-on imitation of a mediocre taqueria.
8/10: Ahoy!: It's heavy mustaches amid a curious nautical motif at Tacko in Cow Hollow.
8/6: Andalé's middling breakfast burrito can't compare to its perennially strong PM-hours slabwork.

July Taqueria Visits

7/30: Even on an off-night at Taq. El Castillito on Church, the venerable slab-basement still manages to ring up eight hairy ones.
7/28: Our latest visit to Taq. Can-cún on lower Mission results in yet another nine-mustache burrito — four out of the last five if, like us, you're tracking this sort of thing.
7/24: El Norteño ends our string of Hall of Fame-worthy burritos by a mere whisker of a mustache.
7/20: What's this? A third consecutive nine-mustache burrito this week?! Oh yes: Taq. Vallarta on 24th St. comes through, major.
7/17: With its latest Herculian slab o' luv, Gordo Taq. on Clement steers us deep into nine-mustache territory. Zero shrugs, no clangs. Just swishes galore.
7/15: Papalote's Western Addition shop shoots to the top of our Mustache Chart heap, and it's OK with us.
7/13: San Francisco's true-pioneer taqueria, El Faro in the Mission, sees its winning streak of eight-mustache efforts end at...three.
7/10: It's a letdown in the morning at Taq. El Farolito on 24th St.
7/6: Taq. La Michoacana saddles us with a big, dumb lunch. "Disgruntled" only begins to cover our panel's reaction.
7/2: Confoundingly delicious carnitas points the way up and over our eight-mustache crest at Taq. San Jose in the Mission.
